Accessibility

Last updated: 29 October 2026

We want every teacher, parent and tutor to be able to make worksheets on NeatPencil, whatever device, browser or assistive technology they use. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What we’ve done

  • Every worksheet maker works with a keyboard alone, and the control in use always shows a visible focus outline.
  • Every form control has a label, and changes such as the name count, page counts and notices are announced to screen readers.
  • A “Skip to content” link starts every page, and the menus are built from standard elements that work without JavaScript.
  • Body text uses Atkinson Hyperlegible, a font the Braille Institute designed to be easier to read for people with low vision, with strong colour contrast.
  • Pages reflow on phones and when zoomed, and buttons are large enough to tap easily.
  • Pages in the live preview and on the preview page are labelled with their page number and the name or word on them.
  • Worksheets can be made with larger letters and fewer rows for learners who need more space.

Known limitations

  • Reordering pages by dragging. Dragging page thumbnails into a new order needs a mouse or touch screen. On the name and word makers you can change the order with a keyboard instead by moving lines in the list, or choose to sort them A to Z.
  • The PDF worksheets. The letters in the PDF are drawn as shapes so that they print exactly in the chosen style, which means a screen reader can’t read them out. The worksheets are made to be printed and traced, and the preview page shows every page, with its name or word, before you download.

This statement is based on our own checks against WCAG 2.2 as we build the site. NeatPencil hasn’t yet had an independent accessibility audit.

Tell us about a problem

If something on NeatPencil is hard to use, or you need a worksheet in a different form, email [email protected]. It helps to tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and the device, browser and any assistive technology you use. We usually reply within two working days, and we treat accessibility problems as bugs to fix.
